Entrepreneurship with Purpose: Joshua’s Story of Problem-Solving and Passion

TribesAndHistory: Welcome, Joshua! Can you introduce yourself and let us know how you’d like to be addressed?

Joshua: Thank you! My name is Joshua, and you can address me as Joshua.

TribesAndHistory: How can readers connect with you?

Joshua: They can reach out to me through my LinkedIn profile.

TribesAndHistory: Where are you from?

Joshua: I’m from Akwa Ibom, Nigeria.

TribesAndHistory: What do you do?

Joshua: I’m currently a full-time student, but I’m also an entrepreneur. I am the founder of Jovour. It is a business that connects people with service providers. I act as a bridge between professionals and those who need their services.

TribesAndHistory: What inspired you to start your business?

Joshua: The idea came from personal experiences. I realized that many skilled professionals struggle to find jobs because they lack visibility or access to opportunities. I wanted to change that by creating a platform where service providers can easily connect with potential clients.

A major turning point for me was when a close friend of mine faced a critical situation. His sister needed urgent medical attention, but they didn’t know how to reach the right professional in time. That experience made me think—what if there was a system in place to quickly connect people with the services they need? That motivated me to build a platform where people can find trusted professionals without unnecessary delays.

TribesAndHistory: Tell us more about your business.

Joshua: My business focuses on connecting service providers with clients efficiently. We also emphasize community engagement by creating educational content. We have a YouTube channel where professionals share their expertise in different fields, allowing people to learn valuable skills. Our goal is to make premium knowledge accessible, ensuring that people receive quality guidance from qualified professionals rather than random online sources.

TribesAndHistory: Can you share a pivotal moment that shaped your leadership journey?

Joshua: There was a time when we were preparing to pitch our business to investors, but things didn’t go as planned. We missed a major opportunity because of a lack of preparation, and it was a tough lesson. I realized I couldn’t rely on others to take charge—I had to step up.

That experience taught me resilience. I worked on my negotiation skills, improved my emotional intelligence, and learned to present my ideas more effectively. It also shifted my mindset—I started thinking long-term about my business and my impact rather than just focusing on short-term success.

Another moment that changed my perspective was a trip with a friend who was traveling in first class. Seeing that lifestyle firsthand made me realize the importance of financial independence. I didn’t want to be limited by a 9-to-5 job. That was the moment I decided to fully commit to entrepreneurship.

TribesAndHistory: How has your African heritage influenced your career and leadership journey?

Joshua: Being Nigerian has definitely shaped my journey. In Africa, entrepreneurs face many challenges—lack of infrastructure, unreliable electricity, limited access to funding—but these challenges build resilience.

For example, when I was working on UI/UX design, I had to deal with constant power outages. Instead of letting it stop me, I adapted by working outside or finding creative solutions. That’s the spirit of African entrepreneurship—finding a way forward despite the obstacles.

TribesAndHistory: What legacy do you hope to leave for the next generation of Africans?

Joshua: My goal is to inspire young Africans to embrace entrepreneurship. I regularly speak at schools and community events, encouraging young people to take control of their future rather than relying solely on traditional job markets.

I also want to build a sustainable business that not only provides jobs but also equips people with the skills they need to succeed. If I can help the next generation believe in their own potential and create their own opportunities, I’ll consider that a success.

TribesAndHistory: What about your heritage makes you proud?

Joshua: I’m proud of Africa’s endless opportunities. Many people see Africa as a place with limitations, but I see it as a continent full of untapped potential. There’s less competition in many industries, and the possibilities for innovation are huge.

Despite the challenges, Africans are incredibly resourceful and creative. We find solutions where others see problems, and that resilience is something I deeply admire.

TribesAndHistory: Is there anything else you’d like to share that we didn’t ask?

Joshua: I just want to encourage people—especially young Africans—not to limit themselves. Success is possible, no matter where you’re from. I believe in continuous learning, networking, and taking bold steps toward your goals. The world is full of opportunities, and it’s up to us to take them.

TribesAndHistory: Thank you, Joshua! We appreciate your insights and your passion for creating opportunities for others.

Joshua: Thank you! I appreciate the opportunity to share my story.
